Overview: Energy Absorption by Driven Mesoscopic Systems

چکیده
The wall formula for the calculation of friction in nuclear physics [1], and the Drude formula for the calculation of conductance in mesoscopic physics, are just two special results of a much more general formulation of ‘dissipation theory’. The general formulation is as follows: Assume a time-dependent chaotic HamiltonianH(Q,P ;x(t)) with x(t)=V t. Assume also that V is slow in a classical sense. For V = 0 the energy is constant of the motion. For non-zero V the energy distribution evolves, and the average energy increases with time. This effect is known as dissipation.

Rate of energy absorption for a driven chaotic cavity
We consider the response of a chaotic cavity in d dimensions to periodic driving. We are motivated by older studies of one-body dissipation in nuclei, and also by anticipated mesoscopic applications. For calculating the rate of energy absorption due to time-dependent deformation of the confining potential, we introduce an improved version of the wall formula. Our formulation takes into account ...

In this research, the thermodynamic investigation of the tri-generation system is performed by the first and second law of Thermodynamics. The trigeneration system under study consists of three subsystems including the solar subsystem, Kalina subsystem and lithium bromide-water absorption chiller subsystem. The proposed system generates power, cooling and hot water using solar energy. The syste...
متن کاملThe conductance of a closed mesoscopic system
We make a distinction between the spectroscopic and the mesoscopic conductance of closed systems. We show that the latter is not simply related to the Landauer conductance of the corresponding open system. A new ingredient in the theory is related to the non-universal structure of the perturbation matrix which is generic for quantum chaotic systems. These structures may created bottlenecks that...
متن کاملPhosphorylation energy hypothesis: open chemical systems and their biological functions.
Biochemical systems and processes in living cells generally operate far from equilibrium. This review presents an overview of a statistical thermodynamic treatment for such systems, with examples from several key components in cellular signal transduction. Open-system nonequilibrium steady-state (NESS) models are introduced. The models account quantitatively for the energetics and thermodynamic...
متن کاملNonlinear optical spectra of confined and localized excitons in mesoscopic domain and quasi-2D stacking fault interface in BiI3 crystals
Saturation spectra of the excitons confined and localized at several kinds of stacking disorders in layered crystal Bi13 are studied. The quasi-two dimensional exciton localized at the stacking fault interface does not saturate its absorption strength below the density of 105W/cm2 due to the large binding energy and the lateral center-of-mass motion along the interface. On the exciton system as...
